Uh-Oh…

Do you think your state’s standards and standardized testing is bad now? Just you wait…. “Forty-six states and the District of Columbia today will announce an effort to craft a single vision for what children should learn each year from kindergarten through high school graduation, an unprecedented step toward a uniform definition of success in American schools. ” – The Washington Post

While this, on the surface, sounds reasonable, I believe that it will only lead to the following in America’s public schools:

  • a further watering down of the curriculum as ‘baseline’ standards get treated as the ‘be-all and end-all’
  • a further beaurocratization of public schools (as if it wasn’t bad enough)
  • an expansion of testing that does not take into account the real needs of real students in 21st century America.

I sure do hope I’m wrong on this one.
